Iglesia Evangelica Nacimiento Nuevo and Esperanza de los Ninos

Sonora, Mexico, was explored by Spaniards in the 1530s and became a colonial copper, gold, and silver mining district. It became a state of Mexico in 1830. Traditionally, families were quite large, but now the average couples have 2 or 3 children. The overall number of Mexicans will likely rise over the next few decades. However, the rate of population growth is falling as Mexican families, on the whole, are smaller in size than 50 years ago.

Mexican Culture

In the small haciendas and villages, the people often live in simple houses, sometimes made of adobe (mud bricks left to dry in the hot sun), wood, or other natural resources. The children of these areas cannot always complete school because they help their parents on the land or around the house. Some progress has been made to allow them to continue their studies while helping their families. Mexican families are very close-knit and enjoy themselves at every opportunity. Grandparents often live with the family, and social activities revolve around holidays, birthdays, and saint’s days.
